This political season has been an interesting one tosay the least.
Full ofsuspense, and more than a little intrigue, it has been one for the ages.  To say the least, I am more than a littleburned out by all the hoopla, and running a blog for five years.   To keep up any level of journalisticintegrity, occasionally you have to throw in the towel and call it a day.
Part of it is the incredible apathy bloggers run up against, and more oftenthan not, it’s the apathy of the politicos we write about.  This election is not any different than anyother in the grand scheme of things, just disturbing in the depth of themisinformation put out by both sides.  Inthe time I have been a blogger, I have come to appreciate what we do as asociety and more importantly as a country. They say that water finds its own level, and the same can be said ofpolitics.  In that vein I want to go outas I came in, shooting at anything that moved.

To Ken I want to say thanks for continuing theconversation, even though it often runs counter to the powers that beversion.  Southbridge is going throughthe same thing my town did in 2006.  Itis being run by pinheads that cannot put the town’s best interest ahead oftheir own.  Such is life, but Kencontinues to be the major thorn in their ass, and that is at is should be.
Ken and I rarely agree on politics, but my respectfor what he does and for the most part, how he does it, is beyondreproach.  I have met many people who saywhat they think that they think, but rarely put their name to it to actuallyown it.  Ken does that and more.  His blog is a major outlet for thedisenfranchised, and do not for one minute think that this does not matter.  Politicians and other follow blogs (much totheir dismay) and Ken give an outlet to folks that while not always having thetemerity to post their actual names, give them a voice.  This is what we do as bloggers.  And politicos like Durant, Nikola, andClemence hate that as wells following the travails on the posts.
I have met many great folks in your town such asDennis, John, Raciel, Paul, Amelia, Demetri and Monica, Butch, and a host ofothers.  I do not for one second regretrunning my blog or contributing to the conversation on Ken’s blog.  This is the give and take that makes us Americans, and in spite of sounding corny, I loved doing it and contributing to theconversation.  To those of you that votedfor Obama, I say congratulations.  Nowyou have to own this administration.  Thereis no more blaming anyone for the foibles of the past.  You own this shit now and I pray to God thatI am wrong in all of my assertions.  Ihave nothing to gain by being right, and want my daughters to be as proud oftheir country as I have been of mine. A couple of things I would love to see inthe coming years are:
#1.  Put thepeople behind bars on Wall Street that Obama said he would incarcerate so thatthis does not happen again.  I can onlyhope that he does this and follow up on his promises.
#2.  You donot want jobs going overseas?  Put thelegislation forth to stop this practice. I agree NAFTA is a failed policy, and let’s not forget, the Clintons andthe Dems put this into play. OK, not every idea works.
#3.  Changethe tax code.  Stop accusing others ofnot paying the appropriate amount, change it. Make them pay it.  Oh, andcorporations too that pay nothing now. Just a thought.
#4.  Meetillegal immigration head on.  Give them an18 month window to become citizens. Period.  Then deport the folksthat do not want to contribute to our society. Oh yea, and learn the damnlanguage.
#5.  Re-vampwelfare.  Make it so you have to earnthat check.  Volunteer at communitycenters, schools, nursing homes, etc.   Thirty hours a week.  Make them earn that check every month, andmake them feel like they earned it. Don’t volunteer?  Kick your assoff welfare.  Welfare was never meant tobe free ride, but a stop gap measure to weather people past a hard time.  It was NOT meant to create a culture.  Make them work for it, and I can almostpromise you, they will either get off welfare, or we will be a better societyfor the effort.
#6.  Get usout of Afghanistan.  They hate us, Kharraziis an incompetent fool, and buying your enemies loyalty NEVER worked.  Kicking their ass did.  Think Germany and Japan and the MarshallPlan.  We kicked their collective assesAND re-built their countries to be major world powers.  Pay attention as history repeats itself.
#7.  Stopwhining.  Clinton did all that he did, proposed legislation left a 460 billion dollar surplus in place, (that Bushspent down)got oral sex from an intern, did not apologize,  and led this country. In spite of an assholelike Gingrich (who was removed by his own party) and the rest of theRepuglicans.  He simply got it done.  No whining. Whining is NOT winning.
#8.  Admitmistakes.  God knows no one ever gets itright.  Just ask my wife.OK, that is my last blast.  For what it’s worth, I am going to pull thecovers over my head and let someone else worry about all of this.  God bless.
Peace and hand grenades,Bob Cirba
